A talented P.I. agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his mother, who is reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage. Margaret hires her scruffy but excellent former private detective son, Todd, who fell on hard times after his license got revoked for his flexible interpretation of the law. Margaret's adherence to the law clashes with Todd's scrappy methods. When Todd inadvertently teams up with his mother on a case, she sees a way to put him on a suitable path to a financially solvent life.
