New Amsterdam follows the story of a detective with supernatural powers in New York City. He uses his unique abilities to solve murder cases while dealing with personal demons, including his struggle with alcoholism. Along the way, he forms relationships with other members of the NYPD, including a female police officer and a female doctor. The detective also grapples with the challenges of his immortality and his complicated father-son relationship.
