Haibane Renmei follows the story of a group of angelic beings known as Haibane who live in a town called Glie. These Haibane are born from cocoons with no memory of their past lives and are given halos and wings. They are restricted to living within the town and have various rules they must abide by. The main character, Rakka, awakens from her cocoon and is taken in by a group of established Haibane. As Rakka adjusts to her new life, she tries to find answers about her purpose and the truth behind her existence.
