In a final confrontation with the Über-Morlock, Alexander defeats him and travels even further into the future, where he discovers a desolate wasteland dominated by the Morlocks. Accepting that he cannot change the past, Alexander returns to rescue Mara and destroys the time machine to save them from the Morlocks.
