A successful writer hires a young nanny to care for her children while she tries to meet her deadline. As the nanny becomes more and more involved in the family's life, the writer starts to question her intentions. What starts as a seemingly innocent arrangement soon turns into a twisted game of manipulation and betrayal, as the writer's reality becomes more and more blurred.
Devils of Darkness is a horror movie set in a town with a dark secret. The story revolves around a vampire cult and their sinister activities. Carol feels, for whatever reason, that her husband, John, has grown indifferent to her, and is on a quest to find out why, suspecting another woman. She sees the family physician, Dr. Swope, first and then hires a private detective. Her own sleuthing is more effective and she devises a plan; having long been pursued by Eric, she apparently accedes and accompanies him to an apartment and, per her plan, enter the wrong one. There, they find Carol's best friend, Charlotte, and John hiding in a closet. The latter, showing more nerve than good sense, goes into a rage and berates Carol for her apparent philandering. The battle continues at home, where their daughter Janet informs them that because of them, she and Paul have given up on the idea of marriage, but are going away together, anyway. Carol and John trail them to a hotel and find them in twin beds, whereupon John, armed with a fire-ax, summons a justice of the peace and demands a fire-ax version of a shotgun wedding.
Magnolia Milkshake, having a husband who is exempted because of possessing a disease which might be called "too much fat" is desirous of helping the boys across the ferry mop up Bill Hohenzollern's place, tries very hard to join the Red Cross. After various tests she is finally rejected. Since this plan didn't work out she decides to join the kaiser-killers herself and so enters the recruiting station right next door. Here she is again rejected because of a flat head. Having failed twice she goes home feeling that she needs a little training and uses poor delicate little hubby as the goat. While Magnolia is still hard at work training with some dummies, hubby gets a note from Nicholas Nutmeg inviting him to a game of poker, but also inviting his little bank roll. Magnolia sees the note, becomes furious, and here follow some lively chases which end with hubby in jail and Magnolia trying hard to enlist in the army.

Renegade director Klaus Lemke had previously startled German TV audiences with the biker drama Rocker, announcing an unprecedented, unvarnished freshness and authenticity with nonprofessional actors, real dialect and on-the-fly style. In Sylvie, he adds a disarming tenderness.
