Henry Chinaski is a writer struggling with alcoholism and unemployment in Los Angeles. He spends his days drinking in bars, getting into fights, and pursuing his artistic creations. Along the way, he develops relationships with a prostitute named Wanda and a fellow alcoholic named Eddie. Despite the hardships he faces, Henry continues to write and finds comfort in the world of the barflies.
