A writer recounts a childhood journey with his friends to find the body of a missing boy. Gordie and his friends set out to find the body of Ray Brower, a kid who recently went missing. Along the way, they encounter various challenges and obstacles, including facing off against a gang led by Ace Merrill. The boys eventually find Ray's body and decide to report it anonymously. After the journey, the group takes different paths in life, with Chris becoming a lawyer but tragically getting killed while trying to break up a fight. Gordie finishes writing about his childhood and goes swimming with his son and friend.
