In the late 18th century, a female painter named Marianne is commissioned to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman named Heloise on an isolated island in Brittany. As Marianne secretly observes and accompanies Heloise on walks, their bond and forbidden love grow. They engage in deep conversations, including discussing the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Marianne ultimately completes the portrait but chooses not to betray Heloise's trust. Their romance is cut short by Heloise's mother's return, but they reunite briefly.
