After the earth-shattering revelations of Insurgent, Tris must escape with Four beyond the wall that encircles Chicago, to finally discover the shocking truth of the world around them. Picking up after the events of Insurgent, Evelyn assumes control of Chicago and places those who worked for Jeanine on trial. Tris and Four plot to break out of the city and reach the land outside, only to find a toxic wasteland. They are then taken to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, where they learn the truth about the world's past. Tris and Four, along with their friends, revolt against the Bureau to save Chicago from their sinister plans.
