After a missing-person case turns into a treasure hunt, Allan Quatermain and his team embark on an expedition to find the legendary city of gold. Along the way, they face dangerous villains, solve riddles, and encounter various obstacles in their quest for the hidden treasure.

Steve Drexel voluntarily strands himself on a deserted island on a bet. He intends to re-create civilization and carves a miniature city of 52nd Street and Park Avenue out of the jungle. Drexel is befriended by his dog, a native monkey, and a wild goat that is captured in one of his traps. He attempts to cultivate a native as his Man Friday from Robinson Crusoe, but fails as the native escape.

During World War II, a group of American soldiers and air crew members are stranded in the jungle after their plane crashes. They must learn survival skills and navigate the dangers of the tropical environment in order to find their way back to safety.
