John Hancock is an alcoholic superhero who causes millions of dollars in damage due to his constant intoxication. When he saves public relations spokesperson Ray Embrey's life, Ray offers to improve Hancock's public image. As Hancock's popularity rises, he discovers that his wife Mary also has superhuman powers. However, their past catches up to them, resulting in a battle that causes significant damage to downtown Los Angeles. Hancock and Mary must part ways to allow her to heal, and Hancock ends up in New York City. In the end, Hancock continues to protect others as a superhero.
