A pair of French-Canadian ex-convicts, Dennis and Rene, travel to New York City and attempt to make money by selling Christmas trees. However, their plans are quickly thwarted by various obstacles, including an estranged daughter, a stolen money bag, and a threatening border patrol agent. As they navigate these challenges, Dennis and Rene must confront their past and make amends in order to find success and redemption.
Jane, a housewife, is confronted during her daily chores by Dennis, her married lover with whom she has had a long affair. Dennis tells Jane that he has to break off their relationship.
