James Clayton, a CIA trainee, is asked by his mentor Walter Burke to help find a mole in the Agency. As Clayton goes through a series of tests and training at the CIA headquarters, he becomes increasingly skilled in espionage. He forms a romantic relationship with fellow recruit Layla Moore, who he later discovers is a mole. Clayton is then appointed as a non-official cover operative to spy on Moore. He uncovers evidence of her treachery and confronts Burke, who reveals the truth behind the scheme. Clayton ultimately foils Burke's plan and discovers the truth about his father's CIA involvement.
