Icaros is a documentary film that takes viewers on a journey to Peru, where they discover the healing power of ayahuasca, a traditional Amazonian plant medicine. Through interviews with indigenous Shipibo healers and personal testimonies, the film explores the transformative effects of this spiritual medicine on both individuals and communities.
A Shipibo boy is raised by his grandparents in direct contact with the Amazon forest and its inhabitants, whom he respects and considered part of their social environment. Growing up and coming into contact with urban life, the child denies his culture to avoid the discrimination, but, in the end, his vital roots lead him to reconnect with the forest and to reconcile with his ancient traditions.
Alejandrina show us her connection with fire, plants and animals. Meanwhile, she tell us the changes that massacres, terrorism and drug trafficking have provoked in her culture. Are the lumbermen or the miners going to end her cultural history?
