Lux continues to have anonymous sexual encounters on the roof of the house. The boys across the street, who are obsessed with the sisters, eventually discover that all the sisters have killed themselves in a suicide pact. Devastated, their parents flee the neighborhood, and the community acts as if the Lisbon family never existed. The boys are left haunted by the mystery of the Lisbon sisters' suicides and will spend the rest of their lives trying to unravel it.
