Richard III is a Shakespearean play that depicts the ambitious and ruthless ascent of Richard III to power in 15th-century England. Fueled by betrayal and fueled by his deformity, Richard navigates the treacherous world of the Wars of the Roses to claim the throne of England, leading to a final showdown on the battlefield of Bosworth.

The tragic story of Gonza, a handsome ladies man, set in the Tokagawa Period, a time in which appearences are very important. Gonza competes with Bannojō for the honor to perform the tea ceremony to celebrate the birth of an heir to the lord of their clan. To see the sacred tea scrolls Gonza promises to marry the daughter of the family which possesses them, even though he is unofficially engaged to another. When studying the scrolls with Osai, the mother of the house, Bannojō sneaks into the house and steals their obis and runs through the town proclaiming the two as adulterers.

In this adaptation of Shakespeare's play, Richard III schemes and murders his way to the throne of England. Haunted by the ghosts of his victims, he faces betrayal, resentment, and a war for his kingdom.

Our heroine, Miss Velez (despite the fact that she seems to be just along for the ride) is much her usual over-eloquent self (how fortunate she has no sound track!), while Warner Oland makes such an impressive and villainously seedy bandit, he needs no sound track at all. We can just imagine his oily, purring accents all too well.
