Caught in the Draft (1941) is a comedy movie set during World War II. Bob Hope stars as a movie star who tries to avoid the draft by feigning injuries and using other tactics. However, his plans are foiled when he is selected for a special mission that will take him to the front lines. Along the way, he encounters various comedic situations and eventually learns the value of serving his country.
Dick Foran and Harriet Hilliard (aka Harriet Nelson) top the cast of the Universal musical quickie Hi, Buddy. Foran plays GI Dave O'Connor, who comes to the rescue when a boy's club is threatened with foreclosure. Upon learning that the money targetted for the club has been appropriated by a crooked manager, O'Connor calls upon his army buddies to stage a big, fundraising show.
Sally (Sally Eilers) joins the Salvation Army in order to follow her boyfriend Johnny (Johnny Burke) when he's shipped off to fight in the First World War. When Johnny turns out to be a bit of a coward, Sally spurs him and his fellow soldiers on to heroism. The Good-Bye Kiss was noted at the time for being a Mack Sennett comedy played relatively straight, with plenty of plot and very little slapstick.
