In 1974, Patty Hearst, the granddaughter of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, was abducted by the Symbionese Liberation Army. Under the influence of her captors, Patty becomes a member of the group and participates in their activities, including bank robberies. Eventually, she is captured and put on trial for her involvement with the SLA.
