In a sleepy town in New England, deceased couple Barbara and Adam Maitland return to their home and try to scare away the Deetzes, a New York family who has just moved in. When their attempts fail, they seek the help of a malicious spirit named Beetlejuice. However, they soon regret their decision as Beetlejuice turns out to be crazy and uncontrollable. The Maitlands must find a way to scare the Deetzes themselves and protect their home, while also forming a bond with the teenage daughter Lydia.
