The stooges are musicians at the court of King Cole. When they ask the king's permission to marry their sweethearts, the King agrees, but only after Princess Alicia has married Prince Valiant. This news upsets Mergatroyd, an evil magician who plans to marry the Princess himself and rule the Kingdom. Mergatroyd abducts the Princess, and it's up to the stooges to foil his plans and expose his evil doings.

The Clown (yet to be named KoKo) holds a contest, offering 100 dollars to whomever can ride “Dynamite” the trick mule for five minutes. Once the crowd discovers the mule is mechanical, however, they chase the Clown in a fury. When they corner him, Max has to step in to stop the chaos.

Slim Summerville and Dick Sutherland fight over the pretty French girl. Then Summerville is is volunteered into No Man's Land, equipped with a pigeon in a cage, an alarm clock, and Fanny the Mule.

"At the Ringside" is filmed in a "slum" which is rather obviously a studio mock-up on the Hal Roach back lot, and it clearly copies the Lambeth-style slum in Chaplin's "Easy Street" (which was also a too-obvious mock-up). The first half of this film is a blatant copy of "Easy Street". Pollard plays the local constable, charged with maintaining order in the tough slum district.
