Inspector Gadget is a bumbling detective with high-tech gadgets who solves mysteries and foils the plans of the evil Dr. Claw.
In a world filled with crime, Inspector Gadget, a cyborg police inspector with countless gadgets and a penchant for bumbling, becomes a superhero detective as he tries to keep the city safe.
When Inspector Gadget is demoted and disappointed, he must return to action to stop the super villain, who has escaped from prison and is seeking revenge. With the help of his niece and some new gadgets, Inspector Gadget must outsmart the villain and save the day.
Having been recruited by an elite international peacekeeping group called the World Organization of Mega Powers (WOMP), Inspector Gadget is now Lieutenant Gadget, and fights crime with a pair of mechanical assistants called Gadgetinis, who are small robot versions of the Inspector created by his niece, 12-year-old Penny (due to Brain retiring from active duty).

Penny, the niece of the inspector hais now 16 years old and the dog Sultan is smarter. Marhham, the mayor of Metro City has decided that the town needs a tourist attraction. The mayor believes that their problems will be solved when he finds under the Metro City Jail an egg of a prehistoric giant lizard, in perfect condition. But Dr. Claw and his henchmen steal the egg with the intent to use it for world domination.
Gadget is still a klutz and Dr. Claw has a vicious new plan that makes him a super-hero in disguise to try to ruin Gadget and to take over the world, but as usual Gadget in his zany ways wins.
Inspector Gadget's Field Trip is a spin-off incarnation of Inspector Gadget, produced by DIC Entertainment, and aired on The History Channel from 1996 to 1998, with over 26 episodes with live-action sequences produced. Don Adams returned as the voice of Inspector Gadget. It currently airs in reruns in syndication. The series was an educational travelogue program for children, in which the animated Gadget would show viewers the many different sites in famous cities around the world via live-action-clips. The theme song is slightly similar to the one in the Gadget Boy series. In fact, Gadget Boy sometimes makes an appearance in the show.
