Divine Retribution is a TV drama series broadcast by ATV in Hong Kong on 11, September 2000. The series is supposed to be a sequel to TVB's 1992 series The Greed of Man, and was initially called, literally "Greed of Man 2000". Part of the reason for the name change was said to be due to legal rights disputes. While Douban reviews have suggested that the sequel to a TVB series being adopted by a rival channel ATV was actually not one of major controversy.

Told in reverse chronological order, the story starts in the present (June 7, 1994), when the stock market rebounded after the market became volatile and crashed for the weekend. After the stock market stopped trading for the weekend, the Ting's make the wrong bet and their entire fortune is wiped out, compounded by ending up in billions of dollars in debt. Ting Hai forces his sons to commit suicide by jumping off from the top of the stock exchange building before following after them.

In the 1980s, amidst the tail end of British colonial rule in Hong Kong, the film explores the cut-throat machinations of the business elites. It follows the journey of Cheng Yiyan, the chairman of Jiali Group, a fictional Hong Kong company, as he navigates through 15 years of investigations by the Independent Commission Against Corruption. As murders are committed and billions in market value disappear, Cheng faces a series of challenges, including soaring litigation fees.
