In October 1830, retired detective Augustus Landor is asked to investigate the hanging of Cadet Leroy Fry at West Point. Landor enlists the help of Edgar Allan Poe and they discover a note fragment linked to a secret meeting. As more cadets are found murdered with their hearts removed, Landor suspects the family of Dr. Daniel Marquis. Poe is drugged by Lea and Artemus, but Landor rescues him. The building catches fire and Lea and Artemus die. However, Poe realizes that Landor was the killer all along, seeking revenge for his daughter's rape. Landor confesses to the murders before Poe burns the evidence. Landor is later seen at the cliff where his daughter died.
