Lawman is a 1971 Western film directed by Michael Winner and starring Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, and Lee J. Cobb. It follows a lawman who arrives in a small town to bring justice to a corrupt sheriff and his gang. Along the way, he confronts his past and faces personal challenges.

A knock-off of those charming rustic comedies in which Roscoe and Mabel Normand would play young lovers. Lake is a pretty good stand-in for Mabel, but the husky young man who is supposed to be Arbuckle is pretty much of a nullity. Al is a money-hungry villain, up to no good and achieving no good end.

A scrappy lad from the skids attempts to court a well-to-do maiden. During his visits to her family estate, he upsets the Uplift committee that's weaseled their way into the home.

Julius is riding through the town declaring war and the villagers promptly arm and ready themselves. While Alice inspects the troops, the opposing army (made up of mice) fires its cannons. Julius is hit and knocked completely apart; he's picked up and brought to the hospital where they put him back together with a healthy helping of spare parts. The stalwart cat returns to the field and, using a fan and a piece of strong-smelling cheese, lures the mice out of their trench, clubbing them on the head as they arrive with his multifunctional tail.
