In the small New England town of Blithe Hollow, Massachusetts, a boy named Norman Babcock is able to speak with the dead. Almost no one believes his ability is genuine, and he is isolated emotionally from his family and bullied by his peers. When Norman has a vision of the town's past and being pursued as a witch, he discovers that he must perform a ritual to protect the town. With the help of his friend Neil, Norman sets off on a journey to retrieve a special book to stop the curse. Along the way, they are pursued by zombies, but eventually find the grave of Agatha, the witch who cursed the town. Norman confronts Agatha's ghost, convincing her to let go of her vengeance and move on. The curse is broken, and Norman is regarded as a hero by his town.
