A group of camp counselors trying to reopen a summer camp called Crystal Lake, which has a grim past, are stalked by a mysterious killer. As they refurbish the camp, strange incidents occur, and one by one, the counselors are murdered. They soon discover that they are trapped at the camp with no way to escape. The killer is revealed to be Mrs. Voorhees, the mother of a boy who drowned in the lake years ago. In a climactic showdown, the final survivor, Alice, manages to kill Mrs. Voorhees. However, as she thinks she is safe, she is attacked by the decomposing body of Mrs. Voorhees' son, Jason, and dragged into the lake.

A group of young adults visit Crystal Lake and encounter the deadly Jason Voorhees. Thirty years later, another group arrives at a cabin on the lake, unaware of the danger. As they search for a missing person, Jason begins a new killing spree, targeting anyone who crosses his path. With the help of a survivor from the first encounter, they must try to escape Jason's clutches and survive the night.
