This evocative and poignant documentary shows how children reconcile their daily lives in one of the worlds poorest countries with their desire to learn.
Donka, X-Ray of an African Hospital is a documentary film that provides an intimate look into the challenges and realities of healthcare in an African hospital. Set in Conakry, Guinea, the film follows the daily lives of doctors, nurses, and patients as they navigate limited resources, economic struggles, and the devastating effects of diseases such as meningitis. From the perspective of a burn victim, a childbirth, and a teenage girl battling an infection, the film highlights the desperate need for medical treatment and the resilience of the people involved in the healthcare profession.
Jacques is of French descent, and Madiou is his West African friend. The two boys are just eleven years old and they have been friends all their lives as they grew up in Conakry, the capital of Guinea. Like their elders, they are completely unprepared for the vicious and violent reign of terror which is soon to sweep this newly independent country, terror which comes at the instigation of the country's unbalanced new leader.
