After her death, a mother returns to her home town in order to fix the situations she couldn't resolve during her life. Raimunda and Sole are sisters who grew up in a small village but now live in Madrid. Sole returns for their Aunt Paula's funeral and encounters the ghost of their mother Irene. She brings Irene back to Madrid and agrees to let her stay with her. Meanwhile, Raimunda and her daughter Paula have to deal with a different death. Paula's father attempts to sexually assault her and Paula kills him in self-defense. Raimunda hides the corpse in a restaurant deep-freezer and strikes a deal to cater for a film crew. Raimunda later reveals to Paula that her father is not her biological father and that Agustina, a neighbor, could possibly help her find out more about her own mother who disappeared three years before. Agustina is diagnosed with terminal cancer and Raimunda reveals two shocking secrets to her at the restaurant: her father's affair with Agustina's mother and that Agustina's mother disappeared the same day that Raimunda's parents died. Sole tells Raimunda that she has seen their mother's ghost. Irene admits that she did not die in the fire, revealing that Raimunda's father sexually abused her, resulting in the birth of Paula. Irene tells Raimunda that she started the fire that killed her husband and the woman he was having an affair with. After the fire, Irene stayed with Aunt Paula, who was unable to take care of herself. The community, believing Irene to be a ghost, explained the sightings of her as a ghost due to their superstitious nature. The family reunites at Aunt Paula's house, and Irene pledges to stay and care for Agustina as her cancer worsens, promising to repair her relationship with Raimunda.
