A disk containing mysterious information from a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous and daft gym employees who attempt to sell it. Osborne Cox, a fired CIA analyst, wants to write a memoir about his life in the CIA, while his wife Katie copies his personal files onto a CD in preparation for a divorce. The CD is found by the gym employees, Chad and Linda, who believe it contains classified government information. They call Cox to arrange a payment for its safe return, but the meeting turns violent. Linda decides to take the information to the Russian embassy, while Chad and Linda break into Cox's house. Meanwhile, Katie is having an affair with US Marshall/Treasury agent Harry Pfarrer, who is being followed by someone. Chad stakes out Cox's house and is accidentally shot by Harry when he discovers him in a closet. Harry disposes of the body and becomes increasingly paranoid. Chaos ensues as the characters' paths intersect and the CIA tries to sort out the situation.
