In the New Mexico Territory in 1879, a US cavalry unit led by Sergeant Vinson fights for survival against the Chiricahua Apache. Outnumbered and facing ambushes, the soldiers struggle to find water and survive in the harsh Apache territory. As tensions rise within the unit, they must navigate bigotry, dissension, and internal conflicts. With the threat of a blood-thirsty Native American attack looming, the soldiers face a desperate battle for vengeance and survival.

Dick, the captain charged with pilot instruction, leads Jim through every aspect of preparation to fly the bomber, going through a detailed checklist of pre-flight procedures, long before he allows Jim to turn an engine over. Once preparations are completed, Dick shows Jim the process of starting the engines, followed by take-off. In the air, further instruction helps Jim understand the various limits and capabilities of the aircraft.
