Follow the story of Julius Caesar's military campaigns to defeat and conquer Gaul, the region that is now modern-day France. What started out as a pre-emptive attack to maintain Roman security evolved as Caesar decided to greatly expand the Roman republic by pushing for complete conquest. Caesar's own description of the military campaigns has survived to this day and provides insight into the man and this period of history.
