We are in 1320, in the newly formed country we call Portugal. Isabel, the Holy Queen, is the wife of Dinis, the king, and mother of Afonso, the heir, both involved in a civil war that affects everyone.

Álvaro Norte, a celebrated composer and cellist, invites his talented student Mauro to be his assistant. However, Mauro reveals he has other plans that would separate them. In response, Álvaro confines Mauro in a room, using his pain as inspiration for a new cello composition. Despite Mauro's resistance, he inadvertently ends up fulfilling Álvaro's artistic vision.

In 1974, after years of civil war, the Portuguese and their descendants fled the colony of Angola where groups working for independence gradually claim their territory back. A tribal girl discovers love and death when her path crosses that of a young Portuguese soldier. Meanwhile, another group of Portuguese soldiers is barracked inside an infinite wall from which they will have to escape once the past comes out of the grave to claim its long-awaited justice.

During the student crisis of 1968, Ines, an 18-year-old homosexual, is prevented from attending law school by her family, who believe that this is not the right course for a woman. This awakens in Inês a feeling of injustice, which leads her to accept Julio's invitation to join the high school students' association. The next day, we find out that the student association has been closed since they found a copy of the clandestine newspaper "Avante!" on the premises. The rectory then decides to expel suspicious students, starting a revolt in the high school and an ideological confrontation between the couple of Inês and Adelaide.

School is over and there's a hustle in the air. In Porto, tourists fill up the streets and cafés. The old and decadent are now the highlights of the city’s gentrification. Vicente moves around town on his bike and watches the urban changes happening day to day. The town is no longer the same, the world is changing and so is he. Among his family and friends, Vicente lives with anticipation the first days of summer and the beginning of a new life.
