A group of camp counselors trying to reopen a summer camp called Crystal Lake, which has a grim past, are stalked by a mysterious killer. As they refurbish the camp, strange incidents occur, and one by one, the counselors are murdered. They soon discover that they are trapped at the camp with no way to escape. The killer is revealed to be Mrs. Voorhees, the mother of a boy who drowned in the lake years ago. In a climactic showdown, the final survivor, Alice, manages to kill Mrs. Voorhees. However, as she thinks she is safe, she is attacked by the decomposing body of Mrs. Voorhees' son, Jason, and dragged into the lake.
