Vi befinder os i en lille Heurigen-Café i Wien. Den unger sanger Fritz Hertzgruber (Max Hansen Sen.) stifter bekendtskab med en ung dansk forfatter, Jesper Ellekilde (Jens Asby), og de to unge mennesker bliver straks venner. Fritz har nemlig som "Wienerbarn" været i Danmark og er nu et ivrigt medlem af Wienerbørnenes egen klub. Aftenen efter finder finder klubbens årlige lodtrækning om en rejse til Danmark sted, og Fritz bliver den heldige - omend af omveje. Fritz og Jesper følges ad til Danmark, hvor Fritz glæder sig voldsomt til gensynet med sine plejeforældre, komponisten Emilius Andersen (Richard Christensen) og hans kone (Helga Frier). De var de sødeste mennesker overfor deres Wienerbarn, og deres hjem står i Fritz' hukommelse som indbegrebet af idyl og harmoni.
One night there is a terrible accident in the little station town of Bredsted. The young son of the rich Mogens Kragfelt is struck by the Natekspressen (P. 903) near the station. Police chief Aagesen sends the young detective officer Lund (Jørn Jeppesen) to investigate the case, where there are various mysterious circumstances, among other things there are traces of fights at the rails just where Kragfelt was crossed.
A young woman, Nina, works as a singer at a Copenhagen variety theatre, but when her contract expires she suddenly finds herself with no income to support her and her old mother. Upon seeing a newspaper advertisement looking for singers for a theatre in St. Petersburg, Nina jumps at the chance – and a few weeks later she is on her way. However, the advertisement is a hoax, and she actually ends up in a notorious brothel. She fears that all hope is out, but at the same time her sailor boyfriend has just landed in St. Petersburg and is leaving no stone unturned to find his beloved.
