The film is inspired by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja's use of counterpoint in the song 'En Kanmani' from Chittu Kuruvi (1978).

The protagonists, Dilip, Aruna and Swaminathan, a trio of independent filmmakers, look for a last-minute replacement to their nameless “Dalit character”.
