Santha is a cheerful girl who is working in a lodge as a sweeper. She is well-liked by everyone in the lodge. Dinesh is in love with her. But one day Santha is found dead in the nearby well, and an investigation ensues.

The film is set in a tribal village in Kerala where religious superstition and ignorance maintain stasis. A relatively intelligent boy escapes its oppressive confines and later returns, determined to bring enlightenment to the village.

An over-qualified Archana decides to become a village school teacher while escaping her past. After meeting Sukumaran she decides to marry him but faces certain issues after marriage.
