Beauties of the Night is a comedy/fantasy/romance movie set in the past. It follows the story of a composer who leads a double life as an adventurer and dreams of finding true love. The movie is set during the French Revolution and features a variety of characters, including musicians, historical figures, and members of a harem. It explores themes of love, passion, and the complexities of male-female relationships.

Dominique is a pretty, vivacious girl. When she witnesses a car theft, she throws herself and her bicycle under the vehicle. Jacques Mareuil, whom she then blackmails, pays her a sum to cover her debts. In reality, Mareuil, a policeman, is keeping an eye on Atcheminov, the owner of the car, but, wanting to prove that he is an unscrupulous trafficker, he comes up against Dominique's impetuosity time and again. It all ends up like in a good comedy.

The tramp Fernand and his dog Brigadier discover some extraordinary jewels in a bag lost in a ditch. Brigadier, who doesn't like being mistaken for a dog, doesn't believe in the authenticity of the jewels. Then, discovering the owner, he introduces Fernand to the big wide world. Ghislaine Lafont-Dubreuilh, the daughter of the found jewels, sure of her fiancé, whom she neglects, is only concerned with the tramp's future. Her introduction to politics, boxing and wrestling leads to as many failures for the tramp as successes for Fernand Raynaud in his repertoire. Finally, the tramp becomes chaplinesque, restoring the fiancé to his belle's heart and taking only the English chambermaid on the road.

Richard killed his wife out of jealousy, but was acquitted. During the vacations, he meets a young girl and decides to start a new life with her. Knowing Richard's past, his father warns them of the risks involved, and once again blinded by jealousy, he tries to kill his wife. He is then shot dead by his father-in-law.
