The film is set during the last summer before the Great Patriotic War. Three sisters are coming to stay with their grandmother in the village. They imagine the world as a vast and charming "Garden of desires" and all members of the household are waiting for Asya's birthday. Asya has a sense of foreboding regarding the impending grief. Guests come to visit but none of them are her parents. She still does not know that her father was declared an enemy of the people, that tomorrow she will not see her mother and that the war is approaching.

The story is about old village residents who, due to the expansion of the collective farm, have to leave their huts and their homes.

A retired air force colonel comes on summer vacation to the Crimea. He comes as a non-official holiday-maker, so the main problem is to find night quarters. There is a brim-full of holiday-makers here at holyday season, and for locals the main business is to rent a bunk. And if one also manages to make money on sending pears, apples, grapes, the whole winter will be supported. Thus many locals survive, others become callous, cynical cold fish, concerned only about gains. Anna Ivanovna, the flat owner, renting a bunk to the colonel, starts reminding of the latter. Looking over a photo in a hall, the colonel suddenly recognizes himself in youth with a friend, who died of consumption and who turned out to be the Annas son.

Three boys, Jura, Lenya and Jeanne, visit a village. They meet Tonya, a girl with good dancing skills, and bet to win her love. Tonya develops feelings for Lenya, which he later realises to be real.

Felix, a 12-year-old boy from outer space, during the summer holidays gets admitted into a summer children's sports camp. Few people know in the camp that Felix is not there by chance, and a few days ago he was created in a school laboratory because a space intellect sent him as an agent to planet earth to study humans. He is assisted by an ordinary boy Boris and a teacher who explains Felix local traditions and customs.

This is a last day before starting a first grade so seven year old Tyoma has a lot of important things to do.

A group of tourists from one of the southern tourist centers set off along the usual route. But on a mountain pass they are suddenly overtaken by a tornado. As a result, two people die and panic begins...

The young weaver Nadezhda was encouraged in every possible way at the factory: she was awarded a trip to Italy, given a new apartment, nominated as a candidate for deputy of the Supreme Council, while the factory administration turned a blind eye to the fact that some of her products were defective.

The chairman of the Rassvet collective farm, Foma Lukash, lived honestly and fairly. But when his heart began to catch, Lukash went to the hospital. Meanwhile, his deputy began to establish new orders on the collective farm. For example, the working day was moved to a later time. Many people liked it, because it wasn’t war. But Foma, upon leaving the hospital, did not accept the new changes - and demanded early re-election of the chairman...

A small Russian town is prospering, because it's main industry is the chocolate factory. But this kind of prosperity comes at a very high price. Everybody in this town is eating plenty of chocolate, and everyone is suffering from diabetes. There is a thick smell of chocolate in the air, and the local river has brown water, that is filthy with chocolate pollution. So people decided to put an end to their suffering and to shut the chocolate factory down. But the chocolate business is so lucrative, that the factory is expanding, and rapidly increasing the production of chocolate. Conscious citizens are terrified, and an anti-chocolate riot is brewing.

In the first post-war years, Kostya, an orphanage from the Urals, goes to Odessa to visit his aunt.

As an honorary guest, Claudia Alekseevna arrives at the opening of the branch of the Institute of Culture. She will have to visit her mother, ex-husband, teachers, forgotten friends and girlfriends in her homeland...
