One of the most exciting crime thrillers of its era, Vincenzo Denizot’s Tigris depicts a cat-and-mouse game between a renowned detective, Roland (Alessandro Bernard), and the criminal gang led by the man called “Tigris” (Edoardo Davesnes, who also plays the roles of Leblanc and Il Commissario).
Frank Alberti is the guardian of Lydia, a sweet and unsuspecting young girl. By the terms of his brother's will in the event of her death he will come into possession of her property. He plots to remove her and adopts despicable methods. He is a man of some prominence and he enlists the services of one Bernard, a gambler, who is possessed of remarkable hypnotic power over weaker minds.
The film is a 35 meters long fragment, the remainder of a strongly decayed print, enough though to let us recognize the diva Pina Menichelli, here happy bride first and then melancholy loner. A sign on the print has allowed to identify it as the film “Gemma di Sant’Eremo”, a title that according to Vittorio Martinelli, reveals the reshaped version of “La colpa”, played two years before by the Italian diva and never distributed for censorship reasons.
