After being wrongfully committed to a reformatory, a young woman named Thymian tries to escape the tragic and degrading conditions. She faces scandal, degradation, and the loss of her innocence.

Although she pursues him, he declines to take advantage of the situation, because she's married to his best friend. During the night the mother, who wasn't feeling very well, gets suddenly worse.
