A man (Amitabh Bachchan) is found wounded on railway tracks and when he awakens he has no memory of who he is and doesn't remember anything about his life.

A stranger enters a widow's life claiming to be the brother of her dead husband, but she claims that he is a fraud and that her brother-in-law died three years earlier in a car accident.

Jaya lives in a village called Chandangaon in India along with her widower dad, Gokul, who works for a living as a compounder, but calls himself a Homeopathic doctor and dispenses Arnica for all kinds of ailments, especially since there is no qualified doctor in the village.
