Ana, a law student in Madrid, finds herself caught in a monotonous routine. One day, she decides to take a break from her normal life and becomes a cabaret performer at night. As she embraces this new persona, Ana realizes that she is no longer the person she thought she was. The Apostate is a dark comedy about a man named Gonzalo who is struggling with his religious faith. After being raised in a devoutly Catholic family, Gonzalo decides to leave the Church and become an apostate. However, his decision brings him face to face with his deep-seated doubts and the challenges of navigating a world outside of his religious beliefs. As Gonzalo grapples with his own identity and spirituality, he encounters a variety of eccentric characters and unexpected situations that force him to confront his inner demons.

Based on a personal experience of one of the directors, this film is an ironic tribute to the famous hidden camera television show called "Taxicab Confessions", and to New York City.

In every attempt at subversion, there are two moments: the one just before, when everyone doubts and no one knows how to hide fear, and the one just after, when all that remains is to run and find a safe place, maybe in memory.
