In 1951, Henrietta Lacks, a poor African-American woman, died of cervical cancer. Unknown to her or her family, her cancer cells - known as HeLa cells - were taken without her consent and became the first immortal human cell line. The film follows journalist Rebecca Skloot as she delves into the story of Henrietta Lacks, her family's experiences, and the impact of her cells on medical research.
