The story follows his journey from enlisting in the U.S. Army to working for the CIA and later the NSA, where he becomes disillusioned with the government's actions. Snowden's relationship with his girlfriend Lindsay Mills is also depicted. Eventually, he smuggles classified information out of his office and shares it with the press. Snowden is then forced to seek asylum in Moscow.
