A young boy named Sosuke finds a goldfish named Ponyo trapped in a jar. He rescues her and forms a bond with her. Ponyo wants to become a human and they face various challenges together. Eventually, Ponyo's magical powers turn her into a human girl, but they must pass a test to restore balance to the world. Sosuke and Ponyo navigate through flooded lands to find Sosuke's mother and reunite with her. In the end, Ponyo sacrifices her magic to become human and they both live happily ever after.
