A meek bank clerk, Mr. Winkle, is drafted into the army during World War II. Desperate to avoid combat, he goes to great lengths to portray himself as unfit for duty, but his plans backfire and he finds himself thrust into the Pacific theater of the war. Through comedic mishaps and unlikely heroism, Mr. Winkle discovers his inner strength and helps his fellow soldiers.
