In My Mother's Skin is set during World War II in the Philippines. It follows a young girl who is stranded with her family in their country mansion, terrorized by Japanese soldiers. The family's patriarch, Aldo, leaves to seek help from the Americans, while rumors spread that he has hidden Japanese gold nearby. As the mother's health deteriorates, the family becomes desperate for help. The young daughter, Tala, turns to a deceitful and flesh-eating fairy for assistance, unaware of the fairy's true intentions. With the war coming to an end, Tala's duty to protect her dying mother becomes complicated by her misplaced trust in the beguiling fairy.
