I, Tonya (2017)

Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes. Based on a true story, the film follows Tonya's journey from a young age as she is pushed into figure skating by her abusive and overbearing mother. Despite facing abuse from both her mother and her ex-husband, Tonya remains determined to succeed in the sport and becomes the first American woman to successfully pull off a triple axel. However, her personal life continues to unravel, leading to a notorious incident involving her rival, Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya's involvement in the incident leads to her banishment from the U.S. Figure Skating Association and the end of her professional skating career. Following the incident, Tonya faces a trial, divorce, and a struggle to rebuild her life. She goes on to compete as a boxer in an attempt to stay in the public eye. The film ultimately portrays Tonya as a complex and resilient woman, highlighting the challenges she faced as a figure skater and the impact of her personal life on her career.
