In the 19th century, Amsterdam Vallon returns to New York City's Five Points seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher, who killed his father. He infiltrates Bill's inner circle and plans to kill him during a ceremony. Along the way, Amsterdam discovers a complicated love triangle and becomes involved in a criminal empire. Eventually, he confronts Bill and ends up exacting his revenge, but at a great cost. The movie explores themes of violence, corruption, and the struggle for power in a tumultuous time in American history.
