Joseph Pistone, an FBI agent, goes undercover as a jeweler named Don to infiltrate the mafia. He gains the trust of Lefty Ruggiero, a small-time mobster, and starts sending reports and photographs to the police. As Joseph rises in the mafia, he struggles to balance his life as an informant and his responsibilities to his own family. When his true identity is revealed, he must go into witness protection to keep his family safe.
